Professor Judd will discuss her current research, focusing on the significant number of Jewish European women, mostly Holocaust survivors, who married American, Canadian and British soldiers whom they met in Europe between 1943 and 1950. She will examine the transnational stories of these survivors and show how these wartime marriages served as touchstones around the important issues of the day—those of multiple displacements, gender, national power, religion, and reconstruction.
Robin Judd is author of Contested Rituals: Circumcision, Kosher Butchering, and German-Jewish Political Life in Germany, 1843-1933 (Cornell, 2007). She is currently completing her newest book project, Love, Liberation, and Loss: Jewish Brides, Soldier Husbands, and Communal Reconstruction after the Holocaust. Prof. Judd, has received numerous fellowships and grants, as well as four teaching awards at The Ohio State University.
