Hear from a panel of alumni on their career stories and how their History degrees helped them along the way. This is a great opportunity to mingle with your fellow students, faculty and alumni and enjoy free pizza!


About the Presenter

We are looking forward to great panel discussion and question and answer period with the five following UBC History Alums:

Panelists

Katie Taylor– 3rd year Law Student at Peter Allard School of Law

Bio: (in her words) I was born and raised in North Vancouver and I completed all my post-secondary education at UBC. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in History and Minor in Economics in 2014. After graduation, I worked in an office at a ski resort near Kelowna for a year, and then earned a post-baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting from Sauder School of Business at UBC in 2016. I am currently in my third and final year of law school at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC, and excited to start articling with a large firm in downtown Vancouver this September.

Riley Hass– Teacher at Oxford Learning Centres

Bio: Riley is a UBC History grad from 2015 who is pursuing a career in Education. After graduation, he moved to South Korea and taught English for over two years. Since returning to Canada, Riley has been teaching at the Oxford Learning Centre, tutoring high school English and Social Studies, and volunteering at local high schools to build his experience for the UBC Education Program in the Fall of 2019.

 

Trevor Quan– Senior Research Analyst, Information & Communications Technology Council

Bio: Trevor Quan has a BA in History as well as a Masters of Management from UBC. He has worked in the tech and innovation sector for almost a decade, specializing in research and policy.

 

Geoffrey Rempel- Member, Immigration Division – Immigration & Refugee Board of Canada

Bio: Geoff’s current professional role is as a Member of the Immigration Division at Immigration & Refugee Board of Canada.  He studied at UBC between 1994 and 2001, receiving three UBC degrees: a BA in History and Geography, a BEd in Secondary School Studies and an MA in Geography. Geoff began working for the Canadian government in 2002.

 

Connie Chang- Founder & Principal, Type C Consulting

Bio: With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and History from UBC, and a Diploma of Technology in Marketing Management – Entrepreneurship from BCIT, Connie founded Type C Consulting, a full-service digital communications and consulting agency, in 2013. Over the past five years, Type C has worked with over a hundred clients on projects ranging from web development and graphic design to communications strategies and digital analytics.
