Want to know how to make the most of your History degree in the working world?
On Thursday, March 16th at 5:00 pm PT, join us in Buchanan Tower 1112 for the 2023 Undergraduate Careers Night.
Four UBC History alumni will be discussing their career paths after graduation and how their History degree empowered them to find success in a wide variety of fields.
Fatima Zahra (she/her), BA’21 History (Minor in International Relations)
Communications Specialist, Gulf & Fraser
Fatima graduated with a History major and International Relations minor in 2021. During her undergrad, she had the chance to experience exchange in Seoul, South Korea and just one semester of co-op. Luckily for her, that’s when she discovered communications. After daily regret of not going into Comp Sci, some trial and error, and a lot of hard work, she was able to begin her career in Communications – something she couldn’t have done without the skills she developed as a student of History.
Cameron McCaw (he/him), BA’20 History
Communications Assistant, Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia
Cameron received his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of British Columbia in 2020. Following graduation, he found his way into a Digital Marketing and Communications career. Cameron coordinates and implements marketing collateral for community-based strategies and events using skills learned during undergrad.
Danni Olusanya (she/her), BA’21 History
Process Analyst, BC Treaty Commission
Danni Olusanya is a graduate of History major and Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia. Over the years, her efforts have been dedicated to leadership and community building. During her time at UBC, she served as the Co-President of the UBC Black Student Union and the Culture Editor of The Ubyssey, making her the first Black woman to sit on its editorial board in its 103-year history. Currently, she sits on the board of the Canadian Youth Journalism Project and works at the BC Treaty Commission.
Amanda Oliveira (she/her), BA’13 History & Political Science
Chief of Staff, Constituency & Hill Office of Honourable Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard
Amanda graduated UBC in 2013 with a double major in Political Science and History. Since completing her Masters in History at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay in 2015, Amanda has worked for multiple Ministers of Parliament in the Greater Vancouver region, currently serving as the Chief of Staff for the Member for Vancouver Quadra.
