PhD Co-op (Optional)

Co-operative education is an optional program that allows you to gain work experience as you work on your doctoral degree. You will have access to various resources to help support your job search and build career skills.

Research on co-op programs has shown that students typically return to their studies after co-op terms highly motivated and increasingly successful in their studies (marks, completion rates, etc.).

The application window for PhD Co-op is open once per year, and usually closes in the first week of October.

Visiting Faculty

The Department of History welcomes visiting faculty members who wish to pursue research for a maximum of one year at the University of British Columbia. Anyone interested in applying for visiting status should apply in writing to the Head of the Department.

Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

The Killam Scholarship and Prize Programmes were established in memory of Izaak Walton Killam through the Will of his wife, Dorothy Johnston Killam, and through gifts made during her lifetime. Their primary purpose is to support advanced education and research at five Canadian universities and the Canada Council for the Arts.
