I am a Master’s student in early medieval history with an interest in Carolingian religious and monastic culture. My thesis project, tentatively titled: “Hidden from men, known to God”: Secrecy and virtue in eremitic normative texts, c. 830-940, explores the portrayal of permissible miracle production by recluses and hermits in early medieval hagiography and monastic rules. My research aims to provide a new look at the soteriological role of eremitism at, and after, the end of the Carolingian empire.
