The UBC Dep artment of History Colloquium Series brings together scholars who ar e exploring important methodological\, chronological\, or geographical issu es that challenge the frontiers of our discipline and contribute strongly t o our collective discussions.

ies\, we are pleased to invite you to a talk by Dr. Shannon Leddy (Associate Professor of Art Education\, UBC Department of Curriculu
m and Pedagogy\, Faculty of Education). Dr. Leddy is a card-carrying member
of the Métis Nation of British Columbia. Her practice focuses on using tra
nsformative pedagogies in decolonizing and Indigenizing teacher education.<
/p> In this presentation\, Dr. Leddy will share some key concepts and con
siderations for incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and Indigenous voi
ces into teaching. Beginning with relationship to land and ontological inve
stment\, she will introduce key frameworks and resources aimed at building
the decolonial literacy of those in attendance. She will also speak to a fe
w of her ongoing projects that may help support this work. Dr. Leddy
will be presenting virtually via Zoom from Denmark. Attendees are encourage
d to convene in-person\, in Buchanan Tower 1112. Whether you choose t

Dr. Shannon Leddy is a card-carrying member of the Métis Natio n of British Columbia and an associate professor of art education at the Un iversity of British Columbia. Her practice focuses on using transformative pedagogies in decolonizing and Indigenizing teacher education. Her PhD rese arch at Simon Fraser University focused on inviting pre-service teachers in to dialogue with contemporary Indigenous art as a mechanism of decolonizati on in order to help them become adept at delivering Indigenous education wi thout reproducing colonial stereotypes. She is the Co-Chair of the Institut e for Environmental Learning\, and a Research Fellow with the Institute for Public Education/BC. Her book\, Teaching where you are: weaving slow and Indigenous pedagogies\, written with Dr. Lorrie Miller\, is now available from the University of T oronto Press. She is also a mother and a Nehiyaw/Cree language learner as w ell as a Danish language learner.
