We are pleased to invite a group of UBC History alumni who will be discussing their career paths after graduation and how their History degree empowered them to find success in a wide variety of fields.

Katie Sloan (she/her), Senior Strategic Technology Professional, BC Hydro
- Katie Sloan has a BA in History and a Dual Masters of Archival Studies and Library and Information Studies (MASLIS), all from UBC. Currently, she is the Manager of BC Hydro’s Library and Archives and also manages a records management portfolio for the organization. Prior to her current role, Katie has worked as an Archivist at the BC Public Service, UBC Athletics, and UBC Rare Books and Special Collections, as well as a Records Analyst at the City of Richmond.


Rebecca Dirnfeld (she/her), Career Educator, UBC Career Centre
- Rebecca holds a BA History from UBC, an MA History from University of Ottawa, and a Career and Work Counselling Diploma from George Brown College. She is a part-time MA (thesis) student in UBC’s EDST program, and researches history of education and professionalism. She loves working in higher education, supporting students with Career exploration and planning.


Riley Hass (He/Him), Teacher with Richmond School District #38
- My teaching journey started in Buchanan building when I took a job posting for English Language Learners in South Korea. Since then I helped publish a book, earned my education degree, and took on my school’s leadership program helping the leaders of tomorrow. (UBC Bachelors of Arts ’14 & UBC Bachelors of Education ’20).


Carmen Watson (she/her)
- Carmen currently works as a Senior Specialist for the Indigenous Office at CBC, and as an instructor at Royal Roads University. No matter the role, she is most interested in career opportunities that draw on radical hope to effect systemic change.
