 24 Colloquium series\, we are pleased to invite you to a talk by Dr. <stron
 g>Penney Clark</strong> (Professor and Deputy Department Head\, Department 
 of Curriculum & Pedagogy\, UBC Faculty of Education).</p><p>This presentati
 on will discuss the chief aspects of the history component of the British C
 olumbia social studies curriculum\, selected findings of the recent Nationa
 l Youth Survey\, and challenges associated with the incorporation of Indige
 nous Knowledges into the curriculum.</p><p>Whether you choose to attend vir

 trong>Penney Clark</strong>’s research interests centre on the production a
 nd provision of elementary to high school textbooks in historical contexts\
 , the historical development of history and social studies curricula in Can
 ada\, and history teaching and learning. She is a former president of the C
 anadian History of Education Association (CHEA)\, a former co-editor of <em
 >Historical Studies in Education/Revue d’histoire de l’éducation</em>\, and
  her research has received numerous prizes\, including the Canadian History
  of Education Association Founders Prize. Her most recent major publication
  (with Alan Sears) is <em>The Arts and the Teaching of History: Historical 
 F(r)ictions</em> (Palgrave MacMillan\, 2020.)</p><p>Dr. Clark is currently 
 co-lead of the Curriculum and Resources cluster in the “Thinking Historical
 ly for Canada’s Future” project that was awarded a $2.5 million SSHRC Partn
 ership Grant (2019-2026). The project’s goals include mapping the terrain o
 f history education in K–12 and ascertaining to what extent history and soc
 ial studies teaching helps students engage with the key issues and problems
  facing Canadian society today. It is from this ongoing research that her t
 alk is drawn.</p>
